2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Interior & Features

What I do need before going into detail is that you have a minimal notion of what the Honda I-MMD hybrid system and its different driving modes conceals, a technology that has been aging in barrels for some years to land in Europe for the first time in this CR-V. The I-MMD system works, basically as an electric extended range but with self-rechargeable “support” batteries of approximately 1 kWh, being the only energy source that moves the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid in EV Drive mode, ie exclusively electric propulsion and thermal and electric motors in a latent state.

Test Drive – in City

First round, the rigorous urban layout. The truth is that there is no hybrid that does not perform minimally well in this specialty, but this 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid simply comes out. It improves the already very good values of a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid -5,7 l / 100 km-, but also those of the Prius himself, a kind of efficiency. The key would bet that it resides in a lithium-ion battery of total proactivity in its management and speed of recharging … and in a greater capacity than promised. Honda estimates 2 km of electric autonomy, but it matters much more the sum of small large “battery” portions and, above all, the fork of speeds at which it achieves it.

And the best thing is that, unlike other hybrids, taking advantage of that electric “vein” does not imply accelerating with special care, allowing you a great vivacity of reactions to move between cars and lanes. Exiting the city with only 4.17 l / 100 km of average consumption is impressive for a car of its size, but there are still more surprises, some good and others not so many.

Engine Drivers the mode of highest efficiency: only one of the three machines works here, the tuned 2.0 Atkinson cycle, but as long as it can do so at very specific regimes and conditions. In fact, the electric motor itself, latent in thrust, comes to exert a certain reduction effect to “accommodate” the engine to the maximum efficiency map -from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm-. You have to give certain characteristics of layout and driving to get into action: low load in acceleration, favorable terrain, average speeds -between 80 and 120 km / h is the optimal fork-. Unless you see the corresponding icon on the screen – a crown in the energy flow diagram symbolizes the mechanical union with the wheels – you will not have enough sensitivity to warn the passage from Engine Drive mode to Hybrid Drive.

Performance

In none of my routes, even proposing it very seriously, I have not managed to overcome the 8 l / 100 km, but assuming that you were interested to know how much could be spent rolling without interruption at constant speeds, we have rolled the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid inside our Circuit of the INTA , obtaining these registries -by the way, not always representative with a distance of long distance-: 7.2 l / 100 km at 120 km / h, 9.7 l / 100 km at 140 km / h and 14.8 l / 100 km at 160 km / h.
