We have driven it! We have been one of the first means to test the new SUV coupe from Kia. It could be called Xceed and reach the end of the year. Kia will launch in 2019 a new compact SUV that will complete the current Stonic, Niro, Sportage, and Sorento. According to media reports, it will be called 2020 KIA XCeed and we will tell you all the details.
Nothing less than 5. Five SUVs are what Kia will have in the market before the end of the year. And no less than 3 of them competing in the same category of compact, yes, each with a very different approach and orientation. They are the new times and what the market asks for. There is no turning back, and the SUV is imposed on all segments and in all formats.
That Kia was going to launch in this 2019 a new SUV on the basis of the Ceed was much more than an open secret. In fact, we already anticipate the news to you exactly three months ago: you can read it here. However, the great novelty that we did not know at the time was his name.
2020 Kia XCeed Overview
Thus, if this information is confirmed, the Kia XCeed would become the fourth member of the new Ceed family, a compact that reached the market last year, launching engines and platform and, of course, is giving a lot. Along with the usual 5-door compact body, also presented the familiar Sportswagon and then the most surprising Proceed, a kind of very original shooting brake variant. The question is, what will this new XCeed bring now?
According to the first reports, the new Kia Ceed, which could reach the market in the autumn although there are those who predict that it will be officially presented in March at the next Geneva Motor Show, would represent a body SUV format on the Ceed. On the one hand, we could consider it as a new crossover variant of the style of the new Ford Focus Active, one of its natural rivals. But there are also those who suggest that the concept will be similar to that of the Mercedes GLA, a kind of hybrid between compact high and low SUV.
2020 Kia XCeed Size
The new Kia Xceed, which will not be presented at the next Geneva Motor Show, shows a length of 4.40 meters and a height of 1.49 meters, which is about 5 cm larger than that of a conventional 5-door Kia Ceed . Part of that greater height resides in that the distance to the ground increases in about 20 millimeters, and the other part is due to the line of ceiling that determines a vertical habitability something better.
Higher so a Kia Ceed, but basically taking its same components and interior environment, the new XCeed will have that way inside with a multimedia system also with screen oriented towards the driver and with the latest in connectivity. Your space should not also vary too much over what already offers the compact, while the trunk will be around 400-425 liters of cargo capacity.
Although at the moment there are not many more details of this new SUV, the first reports also ensure that it may not have all-wheel drive, but in return, its front-wheel-drive versions will have different specific driving modes to improve the motor skills on slippery surfaces, such as snow or ice.
The prototype of Kia Xceed available for driving , which we had access to in an event with all the finalists to Car of the Year in Europe 2019 , was still with the camouflaged body , although we could see, without photos, a unit with full body. It had precisely the most powerful engine, as well as eye-catching 18-inch wheels shod with 235/45 tires (225/40 in the 5-door GT).
The result in progress of this Kia Xceed, in the few kilometers that we have been able to drive, is a dynamic and agile tread , but somewhat more comfortable than that of the 5-door GT . Undoubtedly, a consistent approach to the character of the body.
2020 Kia XCeed Specs – Hybrid, Diesel & Gasoline
Mechanically, logic also invites us to think that this 2020 Kia XCeed will basically share the range of the current Ceed. This means that gasoline offers the new engine 1.0 T-GDi 3 -cylinder with 120 hp with the top 1.4 T-GDi of 140 hp. In Diesel, the new 1.6 CRDi engine, already in versions of 115 and 136 HP, should capture all the leading role.
It remains to be seen whether, like the new Sportage, the Kia XCeed also opts for a micro-hybrid version with 48V technology, powered by the 2.0 hp CRDi engine of 185 hp. And also if the rumors are confirmed that, in addition, point to this SUV could even release in the brand a new plug-in hybrid version.
