2020 Mercedes EQA Concept Geneva Motor Show

Only one year That’s what’s left for the launch of the 2020 Mercedes EQA: the new electric with which Mercedes shakes Tesla and VW ID Neo. The battle for the compact of the future begins.

Impressive the confrontation that is going away to live very soon in the market with the aim of positioning itself like leader and reference between the electric cars. If until now we have seen advertisements about large SUVs, very luxurious cars or small citizens, the battle for the most popular car, the familiar one, has begun. With the new Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro, for example, or with the Nissan Leaf, we already have the first big stars, but what comes promises even more emotions.
If the Tesla Model 3, which these weeks start marketing in Europe, comes announcing that it will revolutionize (and popularize) the electric market, Volkswagen at the same time promises that with the ID Neo that premieres in this 2019 already has “the Golf “Electric of the future. Older words, to which Mercedes already adds. Yes, because today we can advance, thanks to our illustrator Schulte, the first image of what your EQA will look like.

But, what exactly will this EQA be that Mercedes already announces officially for the year 2020? For its new electric compact but with the approach to be much more than an A-Class power. If the new Mercedes A-Class has revolutionized its segment and recently voted for you the best compact of the year in our Best Cars awards, there is no doubt that this EQA does not intend to become one more.

The Mercedes EQA will thus become the second 100% electric model of the EQ family. Like its big brother, the EQC SUV that will arrive this year, the next compact has been developed from the new EVA platform, a modular architecture developed specifically by Mercedes for its electric vehicles. That yes, adapted in this case in the capacity of batteries, power, and number of engines thanks to its scalable components, and also prepared to even be able to share many elements with other vehicles of combustion of the brand.

Expected as we have said to face great new electric cars, this 2020 Mercedes EQA will be somewhat larger than the current Class A, measuring approximately 4.45 meters in length and proposing a cabin even more spacious thanks to that develops from a battle longer. Its platform is designed to be able to configure it as a front, rear or total traction vehicle, and to have one or more electric motors distributed along its two axes. In addition, and as you can see in the photo above, Mercedes could even develop an EQA SUV under this same model.

2020 Mercedes EQA Performance & Autonomy

If we look at the first data provided by the Mercedes EQA Concept prototype, this next electric compact could have two engines, one per axle, thus offering total traction and an approximate power of about 272 HP. With this scheme, the model announced an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds.

As for its lithium-ion batteries, the first information coming from Germany suggests that it will be offered with 60 or 70 kWh capacity, promising a 100% electric autonomy that will range between 400 and 500 km. They are all figures very similar to those already announced by the new VW ID Neo. Mercedes, in Frankfurt, assured that it would count on a system of fast load that would allow in 10 minutes to offer up to 100 kilometers of autonomy and could even arrive also with the possibility of charging by induction. As you see, promise, promise and a lot. There is less to see and try it.
