New Seat Tarraco 2.0 TDI DSG 4Drive Review: Big Spanish SUV
The 2020 Seat Tarraco, big SUV of up to 7 seats is submitted to the examination of our Technical Center: will this family be as good as it promises?
The most anticipated SUV of the year, the 2020 Seat Tarraco, is a reality and can be ordered at dealerships. Seat culminates, at the moment and until a new sporty SUV coupe that already has planned for 2020, its definitive bet to the SUV segment, where, after Ateca and Arona, this third member is positioned at the top of the offer with capacity for up to 7 seats. But, let’s go to the important thing, how much does it give?
Within a segment apparently not very emotional, such as the emergence of large SUVs up to 7 seats, Seat proposes a model that, without a doubt, aims to distinguish itself from the rest, and both for its driving and for the content it offers. The Tarraco, which could be considered the flagship of the Spanish brand, thus manages to combine the versatility and comfort that you expect in this type of vehicle, adding a touch of driving even sports dyes.
2020 SEAT TARRACO SPECS – 2.0 TDI DSG 4DRIVE
To achieve this great response that leaves us in the first test thoroughly, the 2020 Seat Tarraco makes use of a precise chassis, governed by a very fast direction of progressive radio(very assisted, by the way), an element that gives it a distinctive and well definite. In the case of our specific test unit, the 2.0 TDI 190 hp with automatic DSG, 4Drive all-wheel drive and adaptive dampers, the body is very subject, balances little and contains very well the oscillations produced by the irregularities of the asphalt, keeping at the same time a great quality of patching.
Do not forget, on the other hand, that the new Seat Tarraco shares platform and mechanical base with Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, the other two large 7-seater SUV of the VW Group. But even compared to these models, which are very similar in the background, we now feel that the Tarraco brings its own personality from the first meters you go to its controls.
Of the three, the Seat Tarraco has now shown us to be the fastest performance (we must see the 190 hp Tiguan, when available), but also for guidance precision and curve efficiency , to the point that in some moments you get to forget that the Tarraco is an SUV, and it is in addition to the big ones.
If you let yourself be carried away by that sportiness that transmits the new 2020 Seat Tarraco, the electronic aids can become very intrusive to avoid any dismantling of the rear train. This is the reason why in the elk and slalom test, tests that we occasionally do, the Spanish SUV has not achieved the best results, because when they happen very quickly, the curve and countercurve at a very high rate is when the electronics contracurva at a very high rate is when the electronics act more ironically, slowing down significantly. This desire for safety comes to light again in the asymmetric braking, where it manages to stop in fewer meters than any other. Security before everything.

2020 Seat Tarraco Interior
We already know how it goes and how good the Seat Tarraco is dynamically, but, and what about its huge cabin? Well, metro in hand, most of the interior dimensions of this great SUV coincide or even slightly improve to those of its “twin” Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, with which also shares the arrangement of the seats, its drive (very good) and the configuration of the trunk. In this specific case, the 2020 Seat Tarraco has a plus of interior height, as our unit with a panoramic roof is not equipped, and is the one that provides the most relief in this measurement of all its segment.
This circumstance, together with the wider rear doors that we have measured in its class(almost identical to those of the Volkswagen), makes access to the third row of seats of this 7-seater version quite comfortable. Inexplicably, the rear doors of the Skoda Kodiaq, its other “twin”, are somewhat smaller (just 2 cm) than in the other two models of the Volkswagen Group.
Thus, the interior of the Seat Tarraco pleasantly surprises , and not only for space, but also in its environment , with fabric inserts on the doors, a digital control panel of modern design and a complete information and entertainment system, with careful menus that we can configure to show all kinds of information, such as oil temperature, turbo pressure, power in use, efficiency assistant, 4×4 data and a long etcetera. Some details are more modern than in their “relatives” of the Volkswagen group, as, for example, the peripheral cameras, which have an overhead representation of the car at different angles, while the parking sensor attenuates the volume of the beep if it is playing for a while while the car is stopped. They are small gestures that reveal dedication in the development and development of a new exceptional SUV, section by section.
Very precise and with a very fast direction that gives it a certain sporty character, but at the same time achieves a balanced comfort.
The 2.0 TDI engine, very refined and in top form, is the most accelerated in its category in this power environment. Perhaps because of its first three gears of change, very close and that contribute to its great response.
The interior dimensions of the Seat Tarraco are very similar to those of the VW Tiguan Allspace, in this case with more height, as there is no panoramic roof.
The seat has also planned a special action for the 2020 Seat Tarraco, which drops to tempting € 41,430 with € 3,250 of commercial contribution. An SUV of the most complete in front of its rivals.
