Are you looking for the best truck in Australia for 2020? If you do, you may want to take a look at Silverado’s upcoming iteration: the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500. So far, Silverado has proven itself to be one of the best pickup trucks. Will the upcoming iteration be as comfortable, capable, and safe as its predecessors? Read on if you want to know the answer.
2020 Silverado Redesign
Silverado is one of Chevrolet’s pickup trucks. Being a pickup truck, we don’t expect much change for the upcoming Silverado in terms of look. After all, for a pickup truck, form follows function. Although the form is secondary to function, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a pickup truck can be attractive. On the contrary, there are many good-looking pickup trucks out there. Of course, Silverado is among them. It is not surprising if the Silverado is among the best truck in Australia.
Now, the questions are how will the 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 look like? Will it have different exterior and interior than the 2019 Silverado 2500/3500? There are no exact answers for that. Well, at least not yet. Below is our attempt to answers those questions.
Silverado is a pickup truck but it is not an ordinary one. Indeed, it is a fancy one. Pickup trucks generally follow form follows function philosophy. Silverado is not an exception to that. While its form follows function, the Silverado is quite good-looking for a pickup truck.
Since the 2019 Silverado 1500 is fully updated, we don’t expect the 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 to get more updates. There will be changes but we don’t expect them to be significant. On the contrary, we expect the 2020 Silverado to inherit most things that the 2019 Silverado has, including its exterior
How will the exterior look like? It will have a bulky, rugged, and aggressive look. In other words, the 2020 Silverado will have a familiar look. A Silverado look. Being a 2020 model, we can expect it to be more modernized with sharp, defining lines and sleek styling. Do expect a large brand-name written on its front grille.
Just like the exterior, we don’t expect too many changes to the interior. The interior should be comfortable and roomy. The interior should be filled with high-quality materials. Not only that, there will be plenty of storage space. After all, the current Silverado has a payload of up to 2 tons. The 2020 Silverado should not be different, especially the 2500/3500 versions.
Among other things that make Silverado as among the best truck in Australia is its capability. Or, to be specific, what is under the hood. The 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 is likely to carry on the engine of the 2019 Silverado. A 6.0L, V8 engine with an output of up to 360 horsepower with up to 380 lb-ft of torque should be the standard engine.
Another engine that is likely to be available is a Duramax 6.6L, turbocharged V8 diesel engine with an output of up to 445 horsepower with up to 910 lb-ft of torque. The 6.6L Duramax engine will be optional.
Are more powerful outputs or more engines possible? Of course. The competition in the market is fierce. Chevrolet may improve the output of the engines or add more powerful engines for the 2020 Silverado if the competition has more powerful engines. It is unlikely to happen, though. The current engines are already powerful enough to handle just about any task thrown. As such, Chevrolet is unlikely to add more output or powerful engines.
As for the transmission, it should be the same as the 2019 Silverado. In other words, the engines will be paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox as the standard. More options should be available for the transmissions. For the wheel-drive system, both all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive should be available albeit it will depend on the trim level.
In terms of payload and towing capacity, the 2020 Silverado should be able to hold 2 tons of payloads with almost 6 tons of towing capacity. As with the current Silverado, we can expect these numbers to increase the higher the trim level is.
Expect the 2020 Silverado to come with high-tech features. Features such as a control screen with MyLink multimedia interface (courtesy of Chevrolet), voice activation, smartphone connectivity (both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), an audio system with seven speakers, and wireless phone charging should be available.
Safety features such as blind-spot monitoring (which includes rear cross-traffic alert system), parking sensors (both front and rear), lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking should be available as well.
Release Date and Price
So far, there is no official information regarding the release date of 2020 Silverado in the Australia market. That being the case, since 2020 Silverado is meant for the market year 2020, we can expect the upcoming pickup truck to enter the market somewhere in the second half of 2019 or early 2020.
As for the price, the price of the upcoming Silverado should not be too far from the price of its predecessor, the 2019 Silverado. As such, we can expect the 2020 Silverado to be priced between just under $100,000 and up to $148,000.
Here are the released details so far:
- Base trim: just under $100,000
- 2500HD WT automatic: under $115,000
- 2500HD LTZ: $135,000
- 2500HD LTZ (Custom Sport and Midnight Edition): $140,000
- 3500HD LTZ: $148,000
The Silverado has been among the best truck in Australia for some time now. It is not surprising, considering the pickup trucks from the lineup have shown to be comfortable, capable, and safe.
The next iteration of the lineup, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, should not perform too differently from its predecessors. It should be at least as comfortable, capable and safe as its predecessors. Being a 2020 model, it should be able to do more. What do you think?
The 2020 Silverado 2500/3500 is not yet released. The information we present here is our expectation of the upcoming model. Although it is our expectation of said model, we base it on the currently available information as well as the model’s predecessor. So, some of the information may be true, some may not. Also, the images we use here are mere illustrations. The real images may be different.
